Escoffier Cook’s Companion App Reviews

35 add

ads pop up constantly

a piece of crap. ad pops up every 5 sec (deadly serious)!

Useful for all cooks - new or expert

Simple and effective presentation of really useful stuff aimed at present or would-be cooks. The ingredients definitions and additional info about purchase and storage would by themselves be worth the effort of downloading. But, add in all the other features like the multi-timers and you have a peerless cooking tool. Well done.

60 ml = 1 cup? This app is crap

The timer seems to work though

What a waste

Anything this app does can be done faster with a google search. And a lot of the unit conversions are WRONG! Good luck using this to bake something!!

Escoffier Cooks Companion

I downloaded the app from iTunes and Im still waiting for it to down load to my IPhone. Why I dont know.

Wonderful App

I had no problems downloading this app. Its a wonderful app with very useful information, timers and conversion tables. Finally, a cooks/chefs app that Ill use almost everyday!

Timer doesnt actually ring

Unfortunately the timer for this app doesnt actually ring. It sends a nice notification which you will fail to notice and your food will turn into carbon. Other than that, the app runs well, you just have to like eating carbon.

Seems ok

I tested a few conversions that people were complaining about as well as the time. As long as your phone isnt on silent, it chimes just fine when the timer is up. Works good for basic things and its all in one app.

good reference

but not great . you can find out about many ingredients and their descriotions and tools of the trade, although alot of tools are for professional kitchens and are not relevant to most of us . the convertor is terrible . you dial in , say 5ml to see how many tablespoons that would be . but it took me a full 60 seconds to dial it in . but its missing virtually every other conversion, like pints to quarts....etc etc

Annoying

Cant more the annoying noise it makes

An "ok" app

There is a lot of potential for this app, however the function I wish that worked better was the converter. The dials which are controlled by finger control are WAY too sensitive, and I find myself getting frustrated when trying to convert any measurement, quantity or temperature. If the converter allowed for direct input, rather than scrolling, this would be my go to app when cooking.

The best in its class

Seriously, one of the best apps ever. Very informative and helpful. User friendly and nicely done. Thank you so much!!!!!

Great app!

With plenty of useful information presented in a nice and user-friendly format, it is a must have companion in the kitchen; and its free!

Great so far

Awesome app, would love to see timers with multiple actions like "flip chicken" "add sauce" at the right time. Also saving timers previously created

So professional

I really think it is very professional and of very much use for anyone serious about cooking

Useless

Ugly. Liquid conversions completely wrong makes all conversions dubious, and the app only supports portrait mode making it useless if your kitchen iPad stand prefers landscape.

Wow.

Making instant coffee is the extent of my gourmet cooking. (I can also make ice cubes if I follow the recipe). This app is great for people like me. Simple, informative, well designed.

Doesnt support landscape

Enough said. Could be great if it did.

Broken conversions

Pretty app, but the first conversion I tried -- tbsp to cups, which keeps confusing me when I measure butter -- is hilariously wrong: I am pretty certain there are -not- 3 tbsp in a cup. Conversions not involving cups seemed ok, but now Im going to have a hard time trusting any of them.

Too bad

Im a little disappointed in the app. It seems to aspire to greatness while falling short. For instance, there is a entry for punk lady apples which might lead you to believe there is an entry for other apples. But try to find the honeycrisp and youre out of luck. Also lacking is alternative names. There is an entry for ocean trout that is very good, but it does tell you that it is also known as steelhead. The Seafood Watch app from Monterey Aquarium is far more excellent in this regard. I dont think Ill keep it; its not what I was looking for. Might be okay for some, but not intuitive at all.
